Following our discussion of the migrant narratives, in this chapter I look at of the way these narratives fostered processes of recollection, mourning and witness among migrants from Burma who attended the “Land of Smiles” performances. Taking as my premise the idea that one cannot fully experience or recall their trauma until it is voiced, I’ll show how the migrant narratives had a liberatory effect on participants, engaging processes that were rupturing, consciousness raising, dialogical, proactive and performative, and I connect this process to the embodied, live, collaborative and participatory modality of DAR.
