The International Tribunal for the Prosecution of Persons Responsible for Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law Committed in the Territory of the Former Yugoslavia since 1991, which is the official name of the ICTY, officially shuttered its operations on 31 December 2017, and all its remaining functions were transferred to the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (the Mechanism). The ICTY issued two judgments in 2017, which are reviewed here. The Trial Chamber issued the decision on Prosecutor v. Ratko MLADIĆ; the Appeals Chamber issued the decision on the PRLIĆ et al. case.
