This chapter presents excerpts from the diary of Hannah Heaton, who shares her worries about her salvation and her conversion experience at the height of the Great Awakening. Although she could trace her steps back to the early 1740s as the time of her spiritual birth, Heaton struggled for many years before finding assurance of salvation. Many of the doubts that troubled her stemmed from poor decisions that she believed were the root of her problems.
