This chapter presents Ada Gobetti's entries in her diary from 2 April–25 June 1944. Here she recounts events such as the arrest all of the members of the Military Command of the military formations in Piedmont while they were going to a meeting in the sacristy of San Giovanni; the killing of Walter Fontan, the young native of Exilles who was trying to organize a group of partisans in the Upper Valley; and Paolo's departure with some members of the group from Susa to go to the Chaberton to pick up weapons and tools.
