It analyses imitation and ritual culture in nature and discusses the role of voice as a comprehensive fitness indicator. It also considers how voice learning influenced encephalization and human evolution and suggests that human language may have been incubated in the medium of vocal learning in the form of ritual traditions of context-specific song.
