Her discovery of apostasy and blasphemy outside Carmel's and Church's walls troubled her deeply. This chapter examines the controversial and sensational career tours of the two non-Catholics who proved most influential in shaping her awareness of lives not completely moulded, as was hers, in the discipline of obedience to spiritual authority.
