Health care institutions grapple with the moral as well as the fiscal dimensions of resource allocation and health care cost. This section aims to help clinicians, administrators, trustees, and others involved in health care delivery and governance to discuss these issues in a structured and productive way. It provides six discussion strategies appropriate for senior leadership, medical directors, nursing directors, clinicians, staff, and ethics committees in hospitals, nursing homes, hospice programs, and home care agencies. These strategies offer suggestions for promoting well-informed discussion and consensus-building processes in preparation for developing policies suited to an individual institution's needs.
