This chapter focuses on women in the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). PKS maintains that Islamic ideals should be the source for law and government policy. The women in PKS demonstrate the emergence of pious activating agency and the complexities of political Islam. Women in PKS largely reject feminism as Western and secular and they agree that women have greater responsibility in the domestic sphere. Neverthless, the party’s textual but pragmatic approach to Islam permits women to have careers and be involved in politics. Women’s mobilization of the party’s interpretations of Islam sustains their involvement and allows them to advance their goal of a society with stronger public moral regulation.
