This chapter studies a certain case of classical literature, which is the “Frenzies of the Beast: The Phaedran Furores in the Rites and Writings of Aleister Crowley.” It analyzes the classification of the “frenzies” from Plato's Phaedrus, as well as the explanation given by later Neoplatonists and Platonists. It then introduces Crowley's article “Energized Enthusiasm”, which serves as an important source for the understanding of Crowley's view of sexual magic.
