This chapter identifies the different Western sources that Crowley used to help synthesize his magical system. It examines the modern literature on phallicism, sex worship, and worship of the sun. It then introduces the concept of solar-phallicism, which was viewed as the true origin of all world religions. It shows that these ideas were combined into Crowley's religious and magical worldview, and can be seen in certain passages in his 1913 Gnostic Mass.
