The final chapter discusses different readings of My Fair Lady. It examines themes in the Lerner and Loewe canon as a whole before honing in on the scholarly literature on the show and discussing its key trends. It then proceeds to exploit the sources introduced in the preceding chapters, tying them together by underlining how Lerner and Loewe worked hard to make the romantic relationship between Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle as ambiguous as possible in order to create enough tension to last until the final curtain. The role of woman in society, gender relations, the role of education in social status, and performative subjectivity are other themes under discussion in this chapter.
