This chapter charts the performance history of My Fair Lady from 1956 to the present day. It examines the reviews of the different casts in the original Broadway production and discusses the different productions that went around the world, including the original London production of 1958 and the tour of Russia in 1960. It also gives a brief overview of the movie version from 1964, as well as the three major Broadway revivals in 1976, 1981, and 1993 and the London revivals of 1979 and 2001. The overriding theme of the chapter is the degree to which the revivals have normally been faithful to the details of the original production and the tension this has caused in trying to re-interpret the work for new audiences.
