This chapter shows that soon after its establishment, the Mississippi Valley Historical Association (MVHA) expressed interest in the teaching of American history but then paid little attention to history in schools until 1937 when a “Teachers' Section” was added to the Mississippi Valley Historical Review. It survived, however, only up to 1949. By then, the MVHA saw itself as a researchers' club separated from teachers of history in schools.
