This chapter introduces the basic facts of religious diversity and provides a sketch of the main options that will be considered in the book, namely, exclusivism, inclusivism, and pluralism. It also introduces some of the areas with respect to which this three-part analysis has been, and might be, deployed, with particular attention to the two main areas that will be dealt with throughout the book, namely, the truth of the religious claims of outsiders to one's religious tradition, and what is to be said about their salvific prospects.
