(p.477) 14 Conclusion
Rethinking the Good

Larry S. Temkin

Oxford University Press

This concluding chapter takes stock of the main topics canvassed, some of the lessons learned, and what remains to be done. It then revisits the question of whether the meaning or logic of “all-things-considered better than” determines that it is a transitive relation, considers some responses to this book's views, and addresses the appropriateness of sometimes accepting views that seem incredible or even inconsistent. It discusses the relation between some of his claims and the topic of moral dilemmas or moral dead ends, followed by some thoughts on the relation between his views and skepticism. It ends with a final comment on the position that now remains.

Keywords:   all-things-considered better than, transitive relations, moral dilemmas, skepticism
