This chapter provides a closer look at how social actors meet the challenges of reimaging individual and collective identity at the limits of what nationalism can do. It shows a variety of discursive and interactional strategies, ranging from ironic distancing to meta-commentary to layered multiplicity, ambiguity, and complexity that social actors use to argue for and engage in reimagining francophone Canada. The post-national imaginary emerges as a diffuse idea, still lacking form and content, but nonetheless real. Ethnographically, discursive spaces, resources, and trajectories provide tools for describing and explaining a discursive shift.
