Understanding how interracial partners maintain intimate relationships across systems of stratification, and how sexuality and gender affect these experiences, provides an important glimpse into the contemporary relevance of racial boundaries in the United States at the beginning of the twenty-first century. This final chapter reflects upon the sociological meaning of these interracial stories by briefly casting our attention backward, so that we might see our times in light of what has come just before. It then revisits the book’s central arguments about intimate racework and offers some concluding observations about race, intimacy, and social structure.
