This chapter proposes an approach to planning informative experiments based on the concepts of previous chapters. The process of rational experiment planning can be viewed as the progressive filling-in of missing evidence, and resolution of conflicting evidence. To make our recommendations concrete, we will work with a live research project in molecular and cellular cognition, concerning memory allocation: the problem of understanding the mechanisms that determine which cells in a circuit are recruited to store a given memory
