Using the baseline model arrived at in Chapter 5, this chapter examines the contribution to economic growth of various types of physical investment (Section 6.2) and various types of education (Section 6.3). In Section 6.4 some counterfactual simulations are conducted in an attempt to answer the underlying question: can the cross-province growth regressions help us to understand why China as a whole has grown so fast? Section 6.5 briefly analyses the factors that permit China's rapid capital accumulation. Section 6.6 summarizes and concludes.

Keywords:   economic growth, physical investments, education, cross-province growth regressions, capital accumulation
