This chapter investigates ‘life after life imprisonment’ among a cohort of released discretionary life-sentenced prisoners and discusses the methodological and ethical issues arising from it. It also explores a number of ethical issues associated with studying the process of resettlement and desistance, examines the methods employed for both qualitative and quantitative analysis, and highlights some of the demographic and social characteristics of the cohort of released discretionary life-sentenced offenders.
