This chapter examine some of the keywords in John Milton's poetry and polemic prose. It analyses three words not commonly considered keywords that Milton elevated to the status of keyword in his works. These include book, truth, schism, liberty, commonwealth, the people, and heresy. This chapter suggests that though Milton wrote poems and polemic prose at the same time, he evidently pruned and pared the vocabulary of his poems to make sure that the revolutionary keywords had been bracketed, restricted, or ironized.
