Dickens's same-sex nursing narratives draw on a wider eroticization of nursing to enhance their homoerotic suggestiveness. Such tender, restorative contact provides a crucial balance to instances in which same-sex desire is expressed as brutality, offering a highly positive mode for homoerotic expression. This chapter extends the focus further from the sexual, examining the wider affirmations and queer effects of male touch.

Keywords:   homoerotic suggestiveness, same-sex nursing, male touch, homoerotic expression
