This chapter reviews current knowledge about child—adult health links, exploring the implications this has for child public health. It discusses the impact of biological programming, socio-economic factors, and early care and nurture. It also considers the range of diseases and health problems now recognized to have, at least in part, a childhood origin. These include respiratory disease, food allergies, obesity, diabetes, and hypertension.
