This chapter examines the activities and career of British politician Edmund Burke during the period from 1784 to 1785. In the summer of 1784, Burke's career appeared to be heading to an inglorious close, especially after his mentor the Lord Rockingham died. He tried to adjust and in 1783 he was reappointed Paymaster. Though he was again excluded from the cabinet, his second period of office as Paymaster was more rewarding because he was made responsible for an important piece of legislation called Fox's India Bill.
