While the first principles of natural law are known by all, natural law doctrine is a much more confusing and often impersuasive reality. When modern thinkers bracket the biblical Creator and his ordering wisdom from their natural law doctrine, they rely upon resources internal to human beings to ground an account of natural law. Although modern thinkers often bracket the biblical witness in order to be more persuasive in the public square, their arguments in fact become less persuasive.
