This chapter illustrates that in recent years Gujarat has slipped down from 4th to 6th place in the list of states of India. Despite the hype, there is scant evidence of foreign direct investment in Gujarat, ranking below Maharashtra, New Delhi, and Karnataka. Disturbingly Gujarat’s hunger levels are also among the second highest category. Conclusions discuss that while Gujarat indeed is one of the richer states of India in terms of per capita national state domestic product, yet income inequality exists amongst Gujarat’s lower castes and religious minorities, particularly Muslims, who have 50 per cent higher poverty ratios than scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.
