Kumarappa and his co-workers at the AIVIA spent a substantial amount of time working to revive, improve, and rationalize many traditional village industries that provided economic sustenance to millions. Their objective was to bring ‘the light of science’ to village industries instead of abandoning them. This chapter details the novel, important, and interesting work of the AIVIA in improving many village industries that had wider implications. This chapter also showcases Kumarappa’s ecological wisdom in his understanding of the agrarian economy and the role of natural cycles within it. A multitude of examples are provided that cement his reputation as a pioneering ecological seer in modern times.
