Gender violence has both economic determinants and economic ramifications. Scholars and advocates are increasingly calling for gender violence to be viewed through the lens of economics. This chapter presents a comparative analysis of the economic ramifications of gender violence by comparing the impact on survivors of anti–domestic violence laws and policies in the United States that address economic supports with those of Norway. Norway has a more robust economic safety net than the United States. This chapter analyzes whether and how government-sponsored economic support programs impact policy responses to and survivors’ experiences of abuse.
