The Chemical Bond in Inorganic Chemistry

Applying the model to solids requires an appreciation of the restricting role of symmetry in defining what crystal structures are possible. This chapter reviews those items of space group theory needed to appreciate the following chapters, particularly the correlation between the symmetries of atoms in the bond network and the site symmetries available in the space groups.

Keywords:   space group, site symmetry, crystal structure, bond network
