This chapter begins by discussing Japan's energy situation and current threats to their energy security. It then examines Japan's legal framework for oil supply security. It evaluates the international legal problems of oil transport to Japan. It also examines the energy security in East Asia and Japan's energy diplomacy. It discusses the first oil crisis that occurred in 1973 and how Japanese consumers reacted to that incident.
