This chapter discusses Pope Nicolas' Consulta Bulgarorum, his answers to Bulghar Khan's questions to Rome. This provides information about problems of Christianization for a warlike race deeply attached to old customs, such as rituals before and on the field of battle. This chapter also discusses Nicolas' demand for fasting on Saturdays in Rome. Innocent's verdict that all Christians should do as Rome was doing was vehemently objected to at the Quinisext Council (692) canon 55. As Augustine feared, the issue long remained contentious.
