This chapter focuses on local studies that shed light on the British side of the American war. The areas chosen vary considerably in terms of type and geography from small towns like Brentwood in Essex, Lichfield in Staffordshire, and Strabane in County Tyrone, to Hull, a medium-sized English east coast port, Glasgow, the great Scottish entrepôt, and a largely rural county, Berkshire.
