This chapter discusses Ricimer and his relationships with Libius Severus, Anthemius, and Olybrius. Ricimer assumed a new and unprecedented role — that of a ‘kingmaker’ — following the death of Majorian. Ricimer set up a figurehead emperor, Libius Severus, while retaining real power for himself.
