This chapter talks about the three prophets of God namely Balaam, Amos, and Jonah. Balaam was a foreign priest-diviner who showed himself obedient to the will of YHWH and delivered inspired oracles. Comparatively, Amos was a shepherd in the small village of Tekoa. He was called by God in the mid-eighth century to serve as a prophet. Amos did so but was soon expelled from the royal sanctuary at Bethel and ordered not to prophesy there again. Apparently, Amos and his disciples wrote down the substance of his public teaching. Meanwhile, the story of Jonah depicts the love and compassion of God. It tells that even the chosen prophets sometimes run away from what God wants them to do.
