This chapter introduces basic concepts in structural chemistry relevant to the description and interpretation of structures of inorganic oxysalts. It starts from the structural classification of these materials using bond-valence theory and theory of mixed anionic radicals developed by the Moscow school of crystal chemistry. Typical bond lengths in inorganic oxysalts are tabulated and their behaviour is discussed. Some important parameters of hydrogen bonding are considered.
