This chapter focuses on the civil war in Catalan. Juan's single-minded pursuit of the consequences of his fatal bargain with France kept Catalonia at war. It was governed, or more often misgoverned, by regional captains, and scant attention was paid either to the issues which had provoked civil war or to the grave consequences of that conflict.
