This chapter focuses on the struggle between two hostile factions for the allegiance of Girona, with each proclaiming the remensa crisis to be at the forefront of its concerns. On one side was Queen Juana who was able to make a great show of her professed determination to suppress disorder in a series of measures directed against remensa violence and rejection of legal obligations. On the other side were the Diputació, and the Council, the bodies claiming to represent Catalonia.
