Ghana (population 20.76 million) is a country in Western Africa that covers an area of 239, 460 km2. There are no established palliative care services in Ghana. In the absence of formal structures, individuals in Ghana have begun to incorporate palliative care principles into home-based care projects with AIDS and cancer patients. In addition, the history and development of hospice-palliative care in Ghana is explained. The chapter includes the ethical issues, life/oral histories, public health context, epidemiology, health care system, and political economy.
