This chapter considers some implications of the notion of Functional Beauty for art. It begins by surveying some prominent attempts to identify the function of art, and critiquing the often tacit theoretical assumptions underwriting these claims. After outlining a selected effects theory of art's proper function, the chapter presents some implications of the resulting conception of Functional Beauty for works of art.
