Thermal radiation is discussed in detail. The black body is defined and the Stefan–Boltzmann law introduced. Emissivity is defined and Kirchoff’s law derived. The spectral properties of the black body radiation are given and discussed. Wien’s laws are derived. The equation of state and heat capacity of thermal radiation are derived from thermodynamic arguments.
