This first chapter considers the nature of the crystalline state by constructing crystal structures. It then moves on to look at interstitial, covalent and ionic structures, stacking faults, and twins. It also looks at the crystal chemistry of inorganic compounds, coordination polyhedra, erovskites, tetrahedral, and octahedral structures. Finally, the chapter deals with the structures of iron hydroxides, silicates, silica, ice, water, and carbon.
