In this chapter, the distribution of intermetallics as a function of chemical composition, stoichiometry, and structure types is shown. In some cases it goes beyond, providing an explanation of the principles underlying their formation and stability. Typical representatives of structure types are discussed that are considered important or illustrative from one or the other point of view. It is an attempt to get more insight into the structural ordering principles of intermetallics, a better understanding in which way intermetallic phases adopt their structures from simple periodic to complex quasiperiodic ones. It is also an attempt to present a broad overview of which structures are more or less common, which are the simplest possible and the most complex ones known so far, from one atom per unit cell to more than twenty thousand, or even without a 3D unit cell.
