This chapter deals with two closely related processes, option appraisal and evaluation. Option appraisal is the process of deciding between alternative approaches to reach an objective. Evaluation refers to the process of assessing an activity while it is being carried out or on its completion. The first part of the chapter deals with appraisal, and this is followed by a discussion of evaluation.
