Today, the perspective people have on the dying is shifting in many countries, moving from a passive cessation of curative treatment to a proactive integration of palliative care. With this movement comes the need to prepare professional and lay carers for their role in looking after dying people. This chapter focuses on the development of individual teachers and a community of teachers within palliative care. It considers some of the relevant trends in the wider education world; examines issues relating to the development of the individual teacher in palliative care; and proposes organizational support for the development of a community of teachers within palliative care.
