This chapter briefly reviews some of the research relating structural changes in dendrites with disease, at least in so far as to provide a beginning reference source for readers interested in pursuing the subject further. It then presents in more detail some recent work from the author's own and others' laboratories in which changes in the functional properties of dendrites have been explored in certain animal models of disease. The most specific and detailed information is available for models of epilepsy, and thus these are discussed at some length.
