This chapter examines the processes and mechanisms associated with the appetite for nicotine. It explores the relation between the appetite and satiety for nicotine and discusses the sensory and other post-intake effects of smoking and nicotine control. The findings indicate that the appetite for nicotine is purposive and represent an attempt by the smoker to adapt to the environment. The result also indicates that nicotine appetite can be the outcome of not only the characteristics of the situation but the personality of the individual and that personality characteristics determine the way in which the person interacts with situations.
