Darwin's theory of evolution inspired computer scientists to mimic its basic ideas in the realm of computer programs. Computer programs that employ mutation and recombination of the data sets may often find the solution much faster than programs that employ a more straightforward strategy. All that is needed is the fitness function that replaces the Darwinian survival of the fittest test.
