For slightly non-uniform gases with small gradients of the hydrodynamic fields, the velocity distribution can be written as a perturbation expansion f = f(0) + f(1) + f(2) +..., where f(k) depends on the kth order of the gradients. This chapter derives a set of entangled equations for f(k) . The Chapman–Enskog schemes provides a technique for solving these equations and calculating the transport coefficients.
