For hard spheres the interaction potential diverges, that is, an infinite force arises when two particles are brought into contact. This causes serious problems when the standard tools of kinetic theory are applied to hard-sphere fluids. The pseudo-Liouville operator was developed to avoid this problem. This chapter illustrates its application to dissipative gases.
