This chapter discusses the concept of international community recognition. An important element in distinguishing one form of internationally wrongful act from another is the recognition and acceptance by the international community of the act as being of certain gravity. This constitutes major aspects of the definition of jus cogens and international crimes. International community recognition and acceptance is both the result of an act belonging to intrinsically the category of international crimes, but also a necessary precondition for the inclusion of an act in that group.
